Health Insurance

A team of doctors, caseworkers and secretaries offer free consultations to all students a ‘La santé universitaire’.

but it is also necessary to make sure you can access the ‘normal’ health system in France also.

If you are an Erasmus Student (except from Turkey):

ERASMUS students must bring a European Health Insurance Card. This card must be requested from your home country’s health service before you leave.

The European Health Insurance Card may not cover the full cost of medical or hospital expenses and it does not cover ambulance costs or air transport etc. if necessary. Please contact the Health service in your country to know if you have to take out special packages for students studying abroad.

For Erasmus-student from Turkey and other international students:

Both LMDE (La Mutuelle des Étudiants) and MGEL (Mutuelle Générale des Etudiants de L’Est) offer these health plans for students, and both have offices in Nancy.

Third-Party Liability and Tenants’ Insurance
(Responsabilité civile et risques locatifs)

Tenant’s home insurance covers any material damage caused in your student room or apartment, for which you will be held responsible. Third-party liability insurance covers damage caused by you to people’s property outside your room or apartment – or to other people. Both are extremely important, but, before applying for French insurance, check what is covered by your own insurance, or your parents’ insurance if it includes you, in your own country. If you are already covered, bring the certificates to prove it. If you are not already covered, check with the ESN (Erasmus Student Network) in Nancy, as suggested above.
